The Atayero of Aramoko Ekiti Omoba Olusegun Aderemi has urged the Founder of Babalola University (Abuad) Aare Afe Babalola to intervene in Ekiti Council of Traditional Rulers’ crisis with a view to resolving the issue amicably.
The crisis which was triggered by the appointment of the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi , as the Chairman of the Ekiti State Traditional Council, led some aggrieved monarchs to proceed to court to seek the nullification of the action taken by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
The 16 most prominent monarchs called ‘Pelupelu Obas’ described the action taken by Fayemi of picking someone outside the 16 Obas called ‘Alademerindinlogin’ to occupy the exalted seat , as a flagrant violation of the Ekiti State Chieftaincy Law.
Fayemi had appointed Oba Alabi as the Council Chairman to serve for a period of two years following the expiration of the tenure of Oloye of Oye Ekiti,Oba Oluwole Ademolaju.
Joined in the suit withbregistration number HAD/76/2019 are; Governor Kayode Fayemi(1st defendant), Attorney General of Ekiti State, Wale Fapohunda (2nd) and Oba Adebanji Alabi(3rd).
But reacting to the development yesterday, Omoba Aderemi who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Autofit, said that the traditional institution was very sacred and “we must be careful so that it may not cause anarchy in the fountain of knowledge.
“The Pelupelu Obas as the custodian of alternative dispute resolution ought not to be fighting publicly not to talk of dragging themselves to court.
” My advice to the monarchs is to stop further action, especially media interviews that could inflame passion and go back home and resolve their differences behind closed door.
” We must avoid politics when it comes to the issues of traditional rulers. The monarchs must be seen to be non partisan because of the sacredness of their position in the society.
“This matter must not be allowed to degenerate further, this is why I am appealing to prominent Ekiti sons, especially Aare Afe Babalola to mediate in the matter.”
He also urged the government to have a rethink on the matter to ensure peace and development which the state needed at this time.
