Adepoju backs Eaglets to retain World Cup title

Former Super Eagles player, Mutiu Adepoju was full of praise for Nigeria’s U-17 team, who have qualified for the final of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.

The Golden Eaglets beat Mexico 4-2 in their semi-final clash on Friday to book their final spot against Mali.

It will be Nigeria’s seventh appearance in the final and Adepoju says although it will be difficult against the Malians, he expects Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys to retain the trophy.

“This is a commendable victory and from what I have seen in these players, I have no doubt about their ability to win the trophy though it could be a bit difficult playing against our African brothers. However, I am sure that our boys have what it takes to win the final,” he told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“I must also praise Coach Emmanuel Amuneke and his coaching crew for the good job they have done in this tournament, this has shown that with proper focus, Nigeria can do better than what we are presently doing in football.

“These boys are talented and you can see that with the way they played the Mexicans. It was a tough match having conceded the first goal, but the players raised their game to ensure the country is not disgraced, I say kudos to them.

“I can only wish them well and advise them not to give up, the Mexico match is over and they should be fully focused ahead of the Mali game.” .
