Adebayo: We’ve lost inspirational leader – Senator Aluko

The Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District between 1999 and 2003, Senator Gbenga Aluko, has commiserated with the family of the former Military Governor of the old Western Region, the late General Adeyinka Adebayo.

Reacting to the passing of the late Chairman of the Yoruba Council of Elders in Abuja, Aluko described the death of the late leader as a personal loss owing to the aspiration the late military General imbued in him while growing up.

“I have lost a father, mentor and a source of inspiration while growing up with my family when General Adeyinka Adebayo was both a friend of our family and biggest guest in our house at Ife.

“When General Adebayo was the Military Governor of the old Western Region when my father was a teacher at the University of Ife, General Adebayo made Ife as the first port of call anytime he was visiting Ekiti in those days.

“The late General Adebayo by his counsels exposed me to the virtues of leadership and by that exposure, I became attuned to the pursuit of education as a tool for social mobility that can earn me the position I desired professionally,” he said.

Aluko also recalled the noble roles the late Adebayo played in strengthening Nigeria’s unity as a military officer, noting that the late military leader was a strong pillar in the early resolution of the Biafra crisis.

“Besides playing his roles well as a thorough-bred military officer, in politics, the late elderstatesman also made indelible marks in strengthening bonds of friendship with other Nigerians across the country that saw him as a national political leader with a generous mind that also earned him the chairmanship of the Yoruba Council of Elders,” he said.

Aluko also commiserated with the first son of the late General Adebayo, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, his siblings, the people of Ekiti State, Iyin-Ekiti Community, professional colleagues and associates of the deceased, praying God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

He also wished the deceased eternal rest.
