ADC raises alarm over alleged plans to rig Kogi bye-election

The Kogi State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr. Daniel Isa has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress has perfected plans to rig the forthcoming National Assembly bye-election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed August 11 to conduct bye election in Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency, following the demise of the deputy majority leader and member representing the area in the House of Representatives, late Rt. Hon. Umar Buba Jibril.

Addressing teeming party loyalists and supporters during the flag-off of the campaign of the party at Koton-Karfe, headquarters of Kogi local government, Mr. Isa raised the alarm that the APC led government was set to replicate the vote buying strategy that gave it victory in Ekiti State in the recently held governorship poll.

While describing the ugly trend as a “real threat” to the current democratic experience in the country, the ADC stalwart said they would resist any attempt by the APC administration to secure victory in the forthcoming bye election through the back door.

He further alleged that having lost the electorates in the state through its anti people policies that have brought untold hardships to the masses, the APC led government had resorted to bribe each eligible voter with N10, 000 so as to avoid embarrassment during the House of Representatives poll.

He posited that the plan, as enticing as it was, would fail woefully, stressing that the people of the state who have been at the receiving end of the present administration in the state would not allow their conscience to be bought by some desperate politicians.

The ADC chairman, therefore, advised the APC led-government in the state to, as a matter of urgency, pay the civil servants in the state, whose conditions have become deplorable and hopeless, rather than engaging in reckless spending and frivolities.

He enjoined the people of the area not to reject any money offered them by selfish and desperate politicians when they come around, as the money belonged to the people, urging them, however, to do the needful by voting for the candidate of their choice.

Isa equally described as wicked and mischievous, the lies being peddled by the opposition that the ADC has two candidates for the coming bye election, insisting that Hon. Mohammed Kassim Mabo remained the one and only authentic standard bearer of the party.

Also speaking, the candidate of the party, Hon. Mohammed Kassim Mabo promised to continue with the laudable projects initiated by late Hon. Umar Jibril, whom he pointed out touched many lives during his sojourn on earth.

He assured that if given the mandate he would not betray the people of the constituency by addressing their basic needs.
