Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has described the turn out of party members during Thursday’s ward congress, as the “best ever” since the formation of the People’s Democratic Party in Adamawa State.
The VP in an interview with newsmen, declared that the event was “historic and a clear manifestation of the yearnings of the people for a true democratic set up.
Speaking further, Atiku said “The recorded turn-out in some wards was far in excess of what is seen in general elections in the state. It is a clear indication that people want democracy.”
“The right to freedom of association is a right protected by the constitution that cannot be whimsically taken away to serve the convenience of an individual or any group.”
He noted that it was wrong for the government or any individual to subvert the yearnings of the people who desire internal democracy in the affair of their party.
The Turakin Adamawa concluded by saying that the peaceful conduct of the election throughout the state had clearly shown that there was absolutely no basis other than political reasons, the security alert earlier raised by the state government before the conduct of the congress.
