A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, has won the governorship ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa state.
He defeated six other contestants, including the state governor, Bala Ngilari at the primary election which held at the Old Parade ground, Abuja.
The party’s National Working Committee, NWC, had moved the election to Abuja after Mr. Ngilari was accused by a panel sent to the state to conduct primary election for state Assembly aspirants of holding them hostage.
Monday’s election results which was announced by the chairman of the election panel, Rufai Hanga, showed that Mr. Ribadu got 688 votes while Governor Ngilari got 26 votes.
Awwal Tukur, the son of a former Chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur got 24 votes, a former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Ahmed Modibbo got 30 votes, Marcus Gundiri got 33, while General Aliyu Kama got 3 votes.
Meanwhile, three candidates emerged for the three senatorial districts in Adamawa State.
A one -time Senator, Jonathan Zwingina emerged the candidate for Adamawa South, a former Minister of State for Health, Aliyu Idi Hong, won the central district ticket, while a former Political Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak emerged winner of the Northern district ticket.
In the primary election conducted in Abuja, Sunday night, Zwingina polled 274 votes, Hong, 242 and Gulak 184 to win the tickets for their various districts.
