The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State as fallout of its primaries is deepening as aspirants and other stakeholders have in the state threatened to boycott today’s national convention of the party in Abuja.
The stakeholders disclosed this at a press conference held at the party’s secretariat in Yola yesterday.
The aspirants and stakeholders expressed their displeasure over recent developments in the state chapter of the party, alleging the imposition of unpopular candidates against the wish of the people. This, they said will extinguish the fortunes of the party in the state and the nation at large.
Speaking at the press conference, Chief Anderawus Sawa stated that “the intention of the perpetrators of the anomalies we have witnessed is to truncate our hard earn democracy. Manipulations have become the order of the day and we are saying this is unacceptable; we reject them out rightly”.
Sawa said the primary election that held was conducted in contravention of a court order restraining PDP and INEC from using any delegate list other than the one recognized by all the executives of the party at all level, aspirants, stakeholders and affirmed by the court.
He added that the aspirants and stakeholders had unanimously resolved to condemned and reject the exercise in its entirety.
“And that in protest to that, we will not be part of any illegality that is happening within our party.
“That anything short of cancellation of this kangaroo primary by the NWC of our party will leave us with no option but to follow the views of the greater majority of the people of Adamawa State. We have therefore resolved to abstain from the national convention of the party scheduled for tomorrow (today)”, he warned.
