Adamawa guber poll: APC begins sale of nomination form

The All Progressives Congress, APC, on Wednesday in Abuja commenced sales of nomination form for the Adamawa governorship by-election scheduled for October 11.

The INEC had fixed October 11 for the election, following the impeachment of former Governor Murtala Nyako by the state House of Assembly in July.

The Electoral Act, 2010, mandates the commission to conduct a by-election into the office of a governor within three months of his removal.

Addressing newsmen shortly after picking his form at the APC National Secretariat, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Emmanuel Bello, promised to provide basic infrastructure and good governance at the grassroots.

Bello, who decried the high level of youth’s unemployment in the state, expressed determination to create enabling environment that would attract local and international investors to the state within a short period.

He said the measure would further increase the quality of life of youths in Adamawa in particular and the North-East region in general.

“We in APC are determined to empower the women and create job opportunities to support the people, especially the youths in order to guard against unnecessary restiveness in the country”, Bello said.

He noted that job creation was a potent force in fighting poverty, youth restiveness, idleness and social unrest, adding that it was a key to ensuring security of lives and property.

“We are quite optimistic that when the youths are gainfully engaged and have meaningful sources of livelihood, the area will witness less anti-social activities”, he said.

Bello also expressed commitment to restore public confidence in governance by strengthening the rule of law and equal opportunities for the people, if given the mandate.

“I want to assure the people of Adamawa of my commitment and determination to be transparent in my administration by ensuring equity, fairness and judicious distribution of the state resources.

“My decision to aspire for the governorship office was out of my personal conviction, love for my state and zeal to assist the less privilege in the society, especially the youth, who are the most productive segment of any nation.

“I will give priority to the establishment of more basic health facilities, reduction in maternal mortality rate and other life threatening diseases”, he pledged.

Speaking earlier, the party’s Director of Organisation, Alhaji Kyari Abubakar, restated APC’s commitment to provide a level playing ground to all aspirants.

Other aspirants expected to pick the nomination form are Senator Mohammed Jibrila and Sen. Ahmed Barata.
