Adamawa Group demands Tukur’s sack

These surely are not the best of times for President Goodluck Jonathan’s principal private secretary, Hassan Tukur, as a group, The Adamawa Collective (TAC) has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to sack him as a matter of national importance and priority. The president’s private secretary has been in the eye of the storm since it became obvious that the Boko Haram ceasefire he purportedly spearheaded is a ruse afterwards.

TAC is accusing Tukur of deliberately always misleading the exalted office of the President by skewing vital decisions in favour of his (Tukur’s) primordial ethnic group.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the National Coordinator of TAC, Mr. Eli Gamaniel.

The statement adds that President Jonathan appointed Tukur based on the understanding that he was going to assist in galvanizing support for the administration. The groups said it is regrettable that the reverse is the case.

Gamaniel accused Tukur of using his office at the presidency to advance his religious biases and injecting same into the administration of President Jonathan despite efforts being made by the administration to provide a level playing ground for everybody.

He further said: “For instance, Alhaji Tukur ensured that Mr. Barde Jatua, who came tops in the promotion examination to fill an existing vacancy in the position of Federal Permanent Secretary, was dropped in favour of Alhaji Aliyu Usman Numan, who trailed a far distant position in the exams.

“Similarly, Tukur unfairly manipulated the appointment of Professor Bernard Ladu in favour of one Professor Kyari Mohammed as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Yola. The former came tops after a successful screening and interview process in which he was recommended by the Senate as the most qualified but was again dropped by Tukur.

“It is even more appalling that Tukur was quoted as having said that he can’t be in office and see non-believers (meaning non-Muslims) assume the position of Vic Chancellor of FUT, Yola.”

The group said it is in the same vein that the president’s principal secretary is scheming to ensure that Governor Bala James Ngilari is dropped out of the race for governorship in favour of his anointed candidate that is skewed towards ethnic and religious agenda in a state as diverse as Adamawa.

TAC, in statement, said it is demanding that Governor Ngilari should, like other PDP governors, be given the option of first refusal in line with the policy of the party and not the adoption of different dancing steps.

“Bala Ngilari has been successfully the Deputy-Governor for almost eight years under Governor Murtala Nyako’s PDP government and was faithful enough to the PDP as a party when he refused to jump ship into APC with Nyako. Is it a fair way to reward his loyalty by zoning him out of the race for the position he apprenticed faithfully for eight years?”, TAC asked
