Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State who was at the venue of an event where there was an early Wednesday morning shooting in Lokoja, Kogi State, is safe and still in Lokoja to complete the task that took him there, the Adamawa State Government has said.
Reports have been rife since the dawn of Wednesday mostly suggesting that Fintiri narrowly escaped being shot dead and that he had fled Lokoja after the shooting at the venue of the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Kogi State Township Stadium in Lokoja.
Contrasting the report in a press statement released Wednesday afternoon, the Director-General of Media and Communications in the Adamawa State Government House, Solomon Kumangar, said the story that Fintiri had left Kogi State, was misleading.
“It bears reassuring that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is safe and is still in Kogi to complete the national assignment he was given by his party and no amount of threat will deter him from doing so,” Kumangar stated.
He added that as chairman of the panel set up to conduct the PDP governorship primaries, it had been attested that Fintiri had so far conducted the exercise.
Kumangar provided no further detail as to the result of the exercise, but said any further such details “will be made known as and when due.”
