A former Vice-President and member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has disclaimed the ongoing reports that he intends to contest in the Adamawa State governorship by-election on October 11.
Among the notable people gunning for the number one seat are the former Deputy Governor of the state, Bala Ngilri, the former military Governor of Lagos State, Col Buba Marwa (retd) and the ex-Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP.
Reacting to the report, Atiku on Saturday posted on his Facebook page thus “I just read this rumour that I am running for governor of Adamawa State. This is not true.”
According to him, contesting again as the governor of the state will mean taking a step backward.
“I was elected governor of Adamawa State 15 years ago, but was elevated to the position of Vice President. I believe we must always look forward, not backwards.
“I will never back away from supporting the development of my home state, as I have always done, both as a businessman and a statesman,” Atiku said.
The Turakin Adamawa also blamed President Goodluck Jonathan’s government over its inability to rescue the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls being held hostage in the camp of the Boko Haram.
