Activities grounded at Fed. Poly Ede as unions embark on strike

The Senior Staff Association of the Federal polytechnic (SSANIP) and the Non Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics (NASUP), Ede branch, on Monday called on its members for an indefinite strike, to protest the non implementation of the revised edition of the 2013 scheme of service in the Nigerian polytechnics, DAILY POST reports.

The unions expressed dismay on why the authorities of the polytechnic decided not to comply with new scheme introduced in 2013 by the National Board for technical education, and adopted by both Federal and State governments, including other polytechnics within the South West region.

Addressing members on the campus during the peaceful protest, the Chairman of SSANIP, Federal Polytechnic, Ede chapter, Comrade Johnson Adekanola reiterated the stance of the unions not to call off the strike until their demands are met, accusing the school management of still operating the old scheme of service of 1979.

” We will not relent until our entitlements are paid, on 2013 service scheme, we stand.

“We will force the school authority to implement the scheme, instead of the school management to introduce the new scheme to deal with staff affairs, it is making use of the 1979 scheme of service which is obsolete to reduce our career benefits.

” The most annoying part of it is that our Rector, Mr Patrick Hussein has embarked on leave since, without handing over administrative power to anybody, which has make all activities in the school remained standstill,” Adekanola said.
