Accident claims 2 lives, injures 9 in Ogun

At least two persons lost their lives and nine others critically injured in an accident involving four vehicles at Kobape area, on Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun on Saturday.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the accident.

Akinbiyi told newsmen in Abeokuta that the accident happened around 3:45p.m and it involved a Toyota Siena car with registration number APC 929 HU, a Nissan Pathfinder Jeep with registration number KJA 311 CW.

“The other two vehicles are a Toyota Carina taxi cab with registration number ABG 810 XA and a Toyota Corolla car with no registration number.

“The Toyota Siena car was coming towards Abeokuta and then losses control due to speeding, skidded off its lane, lost the two rear tyres and crashed into the three other vehicles going towards Sagamu, “he said.

Akinbiyi said that the corpses of victims had been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre mortuary in Abeokuta, while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Mr Adegoke Adetunji, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ogun, who also confirmed the accident, warned motorists to desist from speeding on the high ways, saying that they should drive within the speed limit.

He also advised motorists to stop buying fairly used tyres, adding that they should always go for new ones and also check their tyres every day before going out. (NAN)​
