Abuja to have fixed taxi fares from 2015


The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has disclosed that as from 2015, taxi fares in the nation’s capital would be harmonized and fixed.

According to report, taxi fares for different routes in the territory will be fixed as next year begins. This is to enable commuters in the city enjoy cheaper and affordable transport system.

While disclosing this yesterday in Abuja, Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Engr. Jonathan Ivoke, said calibrated metres will be installed in taxis in the FCT.

He said government of the FCT will come up with a “Kilometre Chart” which will address distance related issues, profit, fuel consumption and car maintenance before it fixes the new prices are fixed.

He further disclosed that the city’s rail system will become functional before next year runs out.

In a breakdown of the activities of the secretariat since the beginning of 2014, Ivoke said the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services DRTS was able to generate internally, N2.2 billion for the FCT Administration.

He asserted further that all traffic lights in the territory will be solar-powered by next years just to enable free flow of traffic in the city.
