National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, says former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), is the architect of Nigeria`s current democratic rule.
This is contained in the party’s message on Wednesday to Abubakar on his 75th birthday.
Oyegun described Abubakar as a first-class nationalist, detribalised leader and a sterling example of statesmanship.
He said: “The party recalls with pride your role as the architect of the current democratic dispensation after a troubled and challenging period of transition.
“Since your exit from office, you have worked tirelessly to ensure peace in the country and in trouble-prone areas of Africa.”
Oyegun said in the lead up to the 2015 polls and afterward, Abubakar endeared himself to many as a man of peace through his outstanding work as head of the National Peace Committee on the Elections.
He prayed that God will grant him good health to enable him continue to contribute to national development.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has also congratulated Abubakar on his new age.
