ABSU Students’ Union denies protesting withdrawal of Kalu’s Certificate

Students’ Union Government, SUG of the Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu, says there is no iota in the recent report by the Sun Newspaper alleging that soldiers and policemen attacked students of the institution for protesting against the withdrawal of the degree certificate of the ex-Abia governor, Dr. Orji Uzor kalu.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to Governor, Theodore Orji at the Government house, Umuahia, the SUG president, Comrade Eke Obinna NathClinton, affirmed that no student of the school was manhandled by security agents as purported by the report.

The SUG President had told DailyPost that the Senate of Abia State University is a duly constituted body that has the right to revoke any certificate found to have been earned through fraudulent means. He commended the vice chancellor and the senate for protecting the sanctity of the institution’s certificates.

The SUG further demanded an unreserved apology from the Sun Newspaper over the report, asking it also to withdraw the report which portrayed them as lawless and rascals.

Receiving the students, Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe, said it was unacceptable that a national daily will target its report at maligning students and a state government, saying the administration will not fold its arms and watch such act continue.

He warned those who sponsor provocative publications to desist or face the wrath of the law.

Ndukwe said the government has provided the enabling environment for learning at ABSU and pledged that it will work towards protecting the lives and property of the people of the state at all times.
