Abramovich holds meeting with Chelsea board over Mourinho

Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, had a meeting with members of the club’s board, after watching the team lose 3-1 to Southampton on Saturday.

According to reports in the British press, the Russian billionaire eventually decided to allow Jose Mourinho continue as manager and try to rescue their season.

Mourinho feared he would be sacked, after the Blues lost their sixth game of the season and even appeared to challenge Abramovich to fire him.

The Portuguese told Sky after the game at Stamford Bridge: “I don’t run away. If the club wants to sack me they have to sack me because I’m not running away from my responsibilities or my team.”

Abramovich previously axed Mourinho in September 2007 and handed Mourinho a £18m pay-off, after the pair fell out.

Chelsea will seek to rediscover form, when they host Aston Villa after the international break on October 17.
