Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji has advised staff of the state polytechnic who secured job with fake certificates and those who got to their present positions through fraudulently means to quietly leave or be disgraced out office.

Governor Orji gave the warning during the weekend, while receiving the interim report of the panel set up in January to verify the certificates of the workers, following public complaints.

The panel headed by Mr. Chibuike Nwokoukwu, a lawyer, had recommended sack of some workers believed to have secured employment with fake documents.

The panel also noted that some people in the institution are also occupying positions they were not qualified to hold.

Receiving the report, Governor Orji said that the panel’s report would be implemented, urging those who will be affected to leave honourably to avoid been disgraced.

He regretted that some members of the polytechnic’s governing council employ their cronies without waiver from the government which he said had led to the bloated workforce of the polytechnic.

Orji said that the monthly wage bill of the state which now stands at N3.5 billion poses a major challenge to government’s developmental programmes, hence the need to remove those who are not qualified to be there.

He assured of the state’s determination to reposition agencies and institutions of learning in the state for optimal service delivery.

Earlier in his remark before presenting the report, Nwokoukwu noted that the panel sat regularly and interviewed all academic and non academic staff of the institution.

He also said that the panel also looked at the original copies of the workers’ certificates and retained the photocopies of which would be forwarded to the issuing institutions for actual confirmation of their authenticity.

According to him, the interim report contained four annexure, including the names of staff recommended by the panel, downgrading from their present position as well as others recommended for outright disengagement from the polytechnic.
