Amb. Okey Emuchay, Nigeria’s former envoy to South Africa, has made a case for the scrapping of the office of the First Lady.
He advised that the money being spent on the office should be used to execute infrastructural projects in states of the federation.
Emuchay, who is a governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia state, made his feelings known in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday.
He called for the strengthening of Ministries of Women Affairs to enable them discharge their duties efficiently.
According to the APC chieftain, “The Office of the First Lady should be scrapped and strengthen the ministry of Women Affairs.
“The amount of money devoted to that office can build a befitting Government House and lodge for Abia state.
“It can also be devoted to the provision of primary healthcare to reduce the level of maternal and child mortality rates.”
