Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will thrown out the judgment of the Appeal Court, which earlier nullified his election.
He expressed hope that the apex court will reaffirm him as the winner of last year’s governorship election in the state.
An Appeal Court sitting in Owerri, Imo State, had on December 31, 2015 set aside the lower tribunal’s judgment and declared Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) authentic winner of the election.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Godwin Adindu, in Lagos, yesterday, Ikpeazu affirmed that the appellate court’s decision was wrong and would not stand during the final verdict at the Supreme Court.
Describing the Appeal Court judgment as miscarriage of justice, the governor said the worst case scenario would have been a rerun, instead of disenfranchising over 300,000 voters from affected areas.
