The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has questioned the recent overseas trips of the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, to woo business investors in the State.
The party claimed that the governor’s penchant in junketing around the world in search of investors was a waste of the taxpayer’s money in a fruitless venture.
The Publicity Secretary of APC in Abia, Comrade Benedict Godson, who made the party’s position known, in a press conference in Umuahia, on Friday, berated the Peoples Democratic Party-led government for allegedly wasting monies, which can be used to fix the infrastructural decays in the state.
He opined that the administration has continued to mismanage the state economy, which he claimed, have subjected the Abia masses to hunger and penury.
His words, “We have been talking, shouting. For example, there was a demonstration by pensioners over the failure of the Abia state government to pay them, coupled with backlog of salaries being owed to the state civil servants.
” What we are saying is that you can run the system with your Deputy very well, the governor should do the needful. Government should run the way it’s supposed to be run and Abians should feel the impact of governance.
“You know, the PDP, their stock in trade is not a new thing. They don’t believe in good governance, and they don’t know it. So, for the governor being out for more than a month, coming today without no tangible reason, there is nothing good in PDP government. People are hungry. Salaries are not being paid. APC Abia state frowns at that. We believe, it is a bad precedent”.
Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, says the recent trip of the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu abroad would translate to more vision and vigour in his administration.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday, by the State Publicity Secretary, Don Ubani, who said the Governor’s successful economic missions will yield more development, as well as boast of a better economy for Abia.
