Abia: Gov Ikpeazu-led govt not owing workers salaries – Kalu insists

John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, has declared that the allegation that the state government was owing workers some backlog of salaries, was a lie sponsored by the oppositions in the state

Kalu was responding to an allegation by a gubernatorial candidate (Alex Otti) who in a debate, organised by Justice and Development Peace Caritas (PJDC), claimed that workers in Abia were suffering on the account of backlog of salaries owed by the state government.

He said, “We were all at the house of God and people shouldn’t lie while debating at the house of God. I picked up a lot of lies one of which is that Ikpeazu is owing workers.

“I make bold to say that all workers in our MDAs have not only received their salaries up to December 2018, they have also received their last two leave allowances of 2017. I also make bold to say that in the whole of South East, Governor Ikpeazu’s workers receive the highest wages per person in the entire region.

” I make bold to say that we never removed a kobo from salaries of workers even when other states were paying 30%, 50% and so on, Governor Ikpeazu kept faith with workers, refused to retrench any of them as being suggested now. There is no need to do that”he said. the revenue profile of the state and raise the productivity of workers instead of sacking them.”
