As the governorship and state Houses of Assembly election campaign ends Thursday, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Abia House of Assembly candidate of the party for Umuahia central constituency, Maduakolam Adighibe, has berated agents of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government in the state over alleged tearing of campaign posters belonging to him and other APC candidates.
Addressing newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, Adighibe frowned at the activities of supporters of the PDP candidate and the current majority leader of the State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, who, he claimed, were desperate to ensure their principal remains in office despite his failures since assumption of office.
He recalled how the campaign train of the majority leader, dominated by thugs, deliberately tore and destroyed his posters and also that of Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, reiterating that no amount of intimidation would deter him from emerging victorious in Saturday’s election.
According to him, “Posters don’t win election. But, I’m telling them that they(PDP) will be defeated in the coming election.
“Their actions are condemnable. It is against the electoral law, I strongly believe that the good people of Umuahia central constituency will vote for competence and good representation.
“Not to vote for people who have failed woefully. Not to vote for people who are inaccessible, that cannot make laws that will bring democratic dividends to the people.”
The APC candidate called on Abia electorates to come out en masse and cast their votes, assuring that APC had the machinery to defend and protect their votes.
Meanwhile, effort made by DAILY POST on Wednesday, to reach the Abia House majority leader, Chinedum Orji or his Media Aide, for his reaction was unsuccessful
But John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia state commissioner of information, had in a recent interview with reporters in Umuahia, slammed opposition parties in the state over its penchant for spreading lies and propaganda to the public in order to discredit the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led government.
The Information Commissioner, particularly, took a swipe at the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, Dr. Alex Otti, saying the ex-banker lacked ideas of governance.
