Abia election: APGA chairman asked to resign over poor performance

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ejikeme Alozie-Nwagboso, has taken a swipe at the Abia State chairman of the party, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, over the poor outing of APGA in the just concluded March 9 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in the state.

Nwagboso called on the APGA chairman to step aside, so as to enable the state party leadership and structures restrengthened and repositioned ahead of future elections.

Recall that DAILY POST had reported that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared the winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election in Abia state.

Ikpeazu polled the total number of 261,127 to defeat Uche Ogah of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The APGA chieftain made the call in a letter addressed Ehiemere, and made available to reporters on Sunday, in Umuahia.

Part of the letter reads, “Our Party, APGA participated in the just concluded elections with nothing much to show for it compared to where the Party was in 2015. The seats we secured in Aba was a result of having solid supporters in Aba over the years. No victory happened there because of you. Under your leadership, the Party has retrogressed at an alarming rate. We put up poor showings at everywhere else, and the Party leadership must accept responsibility.

“We need to rebuild APGA in Abia state, and a comprehensive overhaul is needed to reposition the Party in the state. You’re not ebullient enough to lead that change. You should leave that position for someone that has better wit, passion and charisma, which you obviously lack to take over the headship of the Party. We must be holding people accountable for poor showings. The Buck stops at your desk in the state. You must resign your position. It is the honorable thing to do. As a member of the Party, i make that call for you to step aside.

“You watched as the Party was decimated, and ignored building for collective interests of every member of the Party. You don’t lead a people or any organization with arrogance and disdain. You allowed some aspirants to be wickedly pushed away from the Party. You ignored the defeated ones; even though many were illegally made to fail to spring up favored candidates of you and those remote controlling you. You made no attempt at even reconciling aggrieved aspirants. It was that ridiculous. I kept quiet to allow this electoral cycle to come to an end, so as to not distract the Party. And, no one can question the outcome. You must lay on your bed in same exact manner as you make it. You reap what you sow. APGA failed because of the lack of leadership and greed at the highest of levels in the state. We aren’t different from the other Parties. If APGA must be different, it must be seen to be really different.

“We need to immediately reconcile every faction in the state. We must be all out to restrengthen and reposition Party ndi Igbo na Abia state. And, it starts now. Let everyone holding a position within the Party going forward realize that it is about building and not for receiving peanuts as occupants of the offices. This said, I am expecting you to step down forthwith and allow another person lead the change that our Party needs”.
