The Abia State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ikechi Mgbeoji, has declared his interest to vie for the senatorial seat of Abia South zone in 2019 general elections.
Prof Mgbeoji made his intention known during a meeting of Aba Ngwa stakeholders held in Aba, Abia state on Thursday.
The legal luminary explained that he decided to join the Abia South senatorial race in the interest of equity and justice, stressing that since inception of democracy in Nigeria, Aba Ngwa extraction had not represented Abia South district in the red chamber.
According to the Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, ” Among the 3 federal constituency in Abia South Senatorial District, Ukwa federal constituency has represented Abia South Senatorial District for 8 years, from 1999-2007, through Senator Adophos Nwagbara”.
“Obingwa and Ugwunabor is been represented by Distinguished Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who has been in the Senate for 11 years now”.
He promised to ensure effective and proper representation if voted into the National Assembly come 2019.
Speaking on the quest by Aba Ngwa bloc to replace Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in the red chamber come next year, a youth activist, Mr. Augustine Akomas, appealed to the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to support the clamour by the Aba extraction of Ngwa to occupy the senate in 2019 election
He said,”Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, is a product of equity. It is obvious and imperative for the same equity to be extended to the good people of Aba Ngwa federal constituency in the person of prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji.
“It’s on this note that I am calling on the good people of Abia South Senatorial District to throw there weight behind prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji”.
