Abia: APC registers 100,000 new members in 10 days

The Abia State chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Donatus Nwamkpa, on Wednesday disclosed that the state chapter has registered over 100,000 new members.

He said the new members joined the party within 10 days membership drive, which is also holding in other parts of the country.

Nwamkpa noted that the new members were drawn from across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Nwamkpa said the party had earlier set “a target of 300,000 new members in the first phase of the exercise” but succeeded in enrolling 100,000.

He assured that the doors of the party would remain open for prospective members as “no one would be denied joining the APC”

The development is said to be one of the gains of peace talks held by the party’s national leadership for aggrieved factions in the state.

DAILY POST recalls that the delegation had visited a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Prince Benjamin Apugo, and other aggrieved members at his Nkata Ibeku residence in Umuahia, the state capital.

Prince Apugo had expressed displeasure over the manner the party was run by the state working committee.

Leader of the delegation, Senator Chris Adighije, said their visit was to reconcile all warring stakeholders of the party in order to take over Abia in 2019.

He expressed delight that visit and peace moves had brought members together and would attract new ones as APC in Abia could now boast of having prominent personalities, former ministers and senators in its fold.

The senator said APC was now poised to win the 2019 governorship poll in Abia State, adding that the present PDP-led government had failed the people.

State chairman, Nwamkpa, had applauded members for setting aside their differences and embracing peace in the interest of the party.
