Abia 2019: PRP joins APC to sack Gov. Ikpeazu, PDP

Ahead of the March 2 governorship election in Abia state, the state leadership of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in the State.

Speaking at a political meeting held in Umuahia, the state capital on Monday, the leader of PRP delegation, Mr. Godwin Onyekachi, said his party (PRP), was motivated to join forces with APC, because of the good quality of the APC gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, whom according to him, has vision for Abia State.

According to Onyekachi, “Uche Ogah wants the good of Abia, our party and other political parties in the state are ready to work with APC.

“We are bringing the structure of our party across the 17 local government areas of Abia State to deliver APC at the polls. Our party is populated by a team of people you can trust, we can only work with a candidate like Ogah”.

Responding to PRP’s proposal for collaboration, Ogah explained that his party and campaign team was ready to work with every good political party in Abia State to bring the needed change in the state come March 2019 election.

According to him, “We will work together and govern Abia together. What is happening in this state makes me weep. We need to defeat this empire.

“What I am asking Abia people who have integrity and courage for change to do, is to come forward. We don’t have time to waste. In 40 years from now, most of us will not be here. We need to move fast to liberate our state and build a great future for our children.

“The wind of change is blowing across Abia State, we are ready to work with as many political parties under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress to send the PDP out of government”.

Meanwhile, Alex Otti, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) in Abia state, has slammed the Peoples Democratic Party-led in the state, over the alleged burning of the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Abia by unknown hoodlums.

Recall that DAILY POST had reported that unknown persons allegedly broke into the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Abia State and set ablaze thousands of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs.

According to the report, the hoodlums set ablaze over 15,000 uncollected PVCs. They also destroyed the register containing all the names of registered voters in the area.

But, Otti in a press statement signed by the Director General of his Campaign Organization, Dr. Max Nduaguibe, and obtained by DAILY POST on Monday evening, alleged that the burning of INEC office in Isiala Ngwa south local government area of Abia state, was part of a wider design by enemies of the state in power to intimidate the opposition parties as well as undermine the express wish of the people to change the status quo in Government house come March 2019.

According to the statement, “We urge INEC to collaborate with relevant agencies to fish out the arsonists who continue to burn down INEC facilities with impunity, and deal with them, accordingly.

“We urge Ndi Abia to be vigilant. We must not allow the event of 2015 repeat itself. We are resolute and will do everything within the confines of the law to make sure that the votes of the people count.

“We appeal to the security agencies to live up to their responsibilities and ensure that lives and property are adequately protected in Abia state, as the people file out to vote for their preferred candidates.”
