The Professor of Soil Science in Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Adamu Zata, who was kidnapped on Monday, has regained his freedom.
The professor was released on Wednesday night after a ransom was allegedly paid, but the amount was yet to be disclosed when this report was filed on Thursday morning.
The kidnappers had killed the professor’s younger brother, Dr Sheda Zata, as they had stormed the residence in the early hours of Monday to take the professor.
According to a source close to the family, however, the professor did not know of the death till his return Wednesday night.
Sheda Zata, a vet doctor, had been spending the weekend with the professor when the kidnappers turned up, reportedly shooting him to death as he walked out of his room on hearing the commotion caused in the house by the invading kidnappers.
Professor Adamu Zata now has to cope with the killing of his brother and his own survival of a second kidnapping in one year.
The professor was first kidnapped in October 2018, and was released after the payment of a ransom later said to amount to N2 million.
