Abaribe makes ‘mockery’ of Aliero as Senate debates closure of Nigeria’s borders

Minority leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe has described his colleague, Senator Adamu Aliero representing Kebbi Central Senatorial district as a Public Relations expert of the Federal government.

In his contribution to the debate sponsored by Adamu Aliero on “The impact of border closure on the Nigerian economy”, Abaribe thanked the Kebbi lawmaker for being a Public Relations Officer of the government.

“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, on this motion, I think Senator Adamu Aliero has become a Public Relations Officer of government and I thank him for that.”

Abaribe pointedly said that closure of borders was never a solution to smuggling of products, insisting that it was the responsibility of security agents to secure the boarders.

While making reference to the revelation of Senator Abba Moro representing Benue South Senatorial district who said, “There are 87 official borders, but over 1000 illegal borders still exist, Abaribe noted that smugglers would use those borders.

He explained that the development was averse to Nigeria’s bilateral and multilateral trade agreement with some of the West African countries.

He further explained that government would have widened its trade volumes in West African subregion rather than limiting African International trade to the detriment of the nation.

Senator Aliero in his motion applauded the Federal government for closing the borders, saying it has greatly reduced smuggling of Petroleum products by 11 million litres per day and other items.
