“A lot of players should not be invited again” – Akpoborie advises Keshi to look f

Jonathan Akpoborie has asked Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi, to begin the search for new players for the national team.

The former Nigeria international, was adamant that some of the players who Keshi took to the Confederations Cup, did not justify their selection and fresh faces were needed.

“It was clear at the Confederations Cup that we need a lot more players in different positions. The coaching crew should be able to look around and make sure the players that will be invited are good and will be able to add something to the team,” Akpoborie told Goal.

“A lot of players should not be invited again because they have failed to justify the confidence reposed in them. The national team should not be the place where players will be rehabilitated.

“All hands must be on deck to search and invite the new players. Any player invited shaould be able to contribute their quota to making sure that anytime they put on the green and white jersey, they will do their best.”

The ex-Hansa Rostock attacker, also suggested that most players have now allowed complacency to set into their game and that should be dealt with.

He said: “No player in the national team should be relaxed and perpetually sit on the bench. There must be a way of allowing the players have a feel of the ball in match situations.

“This is the time to get serious. Though they did well at the Confederations Cup, but we all could see that some of the players that the coaches took to the competition are not supposed to be there.

“The invitation of good players to camp is one step towards having a good team. Wherever the players are, they should be invited on time, so that they can play together with the players that are already in the team.

“We have the potentials to become world beaters, but not with the caliber of some of the players that participated at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.”
