9th assembly: What Ndume did after Ahmed Lawan won Senate Presidency election

Borno Senator, Ali Ndume, has accepted the outcome of Tuesday’s Senate Presidency election in the Senate.

Ahmed Lawan won the seat of President of the ninth Senate with 79 votes to Ndume who garnered 28 votes.

Ndume, after the votes were counted, shook hands with Ahmed Lawan and congratulated him amidst cheers from other lawmakers.

After a secret ballot voting, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, announced Lawan’s victory to the cheer of Senators and others in the chamber.

“It is my pleasure to announce that Senator-elect, Ahmed Lawan, having scored the highest number of total votes cast is hereby returned duly elected as Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
