Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has disclosed that 90 per cent of his close friends abandoned him during the heat of his squabbles with President Goodluck Jonathan. This was as he accused the Jonathan government of ceaselessly orchestrating smear campaigns against him.
He explained yesterday that while his disagreement with the Federal Government lasted, the police, military and other security agencies in his state were reporting to the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan.
He spoke during the viewing of a documentary which featured his giant strides in security, works, agriculture, education, transportation, health and social development. The documentary projected the Amaechi administration as not only as having positively transformed the state, but equally presented opportunities for the indigent to climb to the apex of their potentialities.
Stressing that what happened during the Jonathan years was a period Nigeria should not go back to again, the outgoing governor insisted that public officers should learn to lead by the rule so as to avoid abuses. He stated that since wives of incumbents were not elected, allowing them overstep their bounds naturally amounts to abuse of office.
Amaechi, who claimed that his achievements spoke volume, noted that all he did in Rivers State were to bequeath a legacy for successive administrations and not for self-glorification.
