Some unidentified gunmen in Omuse community, Elele Alimini, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, have reportedly abducted an 80-year-old woman, Madam Rebecca Igbe, believed to be the mother of Mr. Batram Igbe, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in Lagos State. The gunmen, according to sources, had stormed the area at about 9pm, shot sporadically before they went for their target, who was in a shop opposite her house.
The octogenarian was said to have appealed to her abductors, who insisted on taking her away despite her plea to be left alone.
It was, however, learnt that Rebecca’s abduction was the second time she would be taken away by kidnappers in 2015, according to The Punch.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, said investigation was ongoing with a view to rescuing the octogenarian.
Mohammad said, “We commenced investigation immediately we received the report about the incident.”
Meanwhile, a source, who is an indigene of the area, said the four gunmen were armed, adding that residents of the area were initially not aware that the 80-year-old woman was the hoodlum’s target.
“The sound of gunshots scared everybody away. We never knew what or who the gunmen was looking for until they went for the old woman.
“This is the second time she is being abducted by gunmen this year. This time, they came to her shop around 9pm and took her away. They did not listen to her even when she begged them,” the source added.
