8 pro-Biafrans in prison over alleged treason

Eight pro-Biafra agitators have been remanded in prison custody by a Chief Magistrate court in Port-Harcourt following their arraignment by the police.

The accused persons Okorie Chukwuemeka, Ifeanyi Nwankwo, Kanayo Frank and five others are facing two count charges of treasonable felony, intimidation of president of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Rivers State Governor.

They are also being accused of allegedly levying war against the state along East-West Road on May 23 this year.

When the matter came up in court, Chief Magistrate, Andrew Jaja ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to try the matter and referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The matter was later adjourned to June 21 for mention.

Lawyer to the accused pro Biafra agitators, Nneka Anaeke told newsmen that her clients had the constitutional right to peacefully fight for their freedom.
