The All Progressives Congress (APC) is expecting more than 8,000 delegates in Lagos for its presidential primary election coming up on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11.
The Chairman of the APC National Convention Committee, Dr. Kayode Fayemi made this known on Wednesday while giving an update to newsmen on the committee’s work.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the choice of venue had been an issue of debate as some aspirants wanted the election to hold in Lagos while others preferred Abuja.
Fayemi said: ”We are expecting more than 8,000 delegates all over the country – both elected and statutory delegates.
”As you are already aware, our convention takes place on Dec. 10 and 11.
“We did not arrive at the choice of Lagos accidentally or serendipitously; we arrived at Lagos with the full input of all our presidential aspirants.
”Yes, concerns were raised about distance especially for someone moving from Yobe; the duty I had was to convince them.
”By the time we explained to them the processes that we have put in place, they were happy and they have given us the full cooperation.”
Fayemi said that all aspirants had also been briefed about all processes to ensure a hitch-free, secure, transparent and credible presidential primary.
”Those interested in democracy in this country will have the opportunity to watch it live on television, listen live on radio and to follow us online,” he said. (NAN)
