60-year-old woman arraigned for biting off man’s ear in Zaria


A 60-year-old woman, Nana Shehu was on Wednesday arraigned before a Tudun Wada Upper Sharia Court sitting in Zaria for allegedly biting off her neighbour’s right ear.

The accused, who resides at Kwarin Dangoma, Tudun Jukun, Zaria, was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous harm.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, Sgt Ado Ahmad-Kofardoka said the accused committed the offences on May 24 at 11.00 am.

He said the accused had waylaid and bite off the right ear of one Ibrahim Saminu, 22, after an iron door the victim was carrying accidentally hit the accused shop, which led to an exchange of words.

Kofardoka said, “In the ensuing argument, the accused physically assaulted the complainant and in his attempt to defend himself, the accused pounced on Saminu and bit off his right ear.’’

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 213 and 241 of the Penal Code.

When the charges were read, the accused however pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, the Judge, Malam Muhammad Aliyu, consequently granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He however adjourned the case to June 1 for further hearing.
