About 60 families were Friday, rendered homeless and property worth millions of naira reportedly destroyed in llorin East and Asa Local Government Areas of Kwara, during a heavy downpour which lasted for several hours.

The Special Adviser to Governor Abdul-Fatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief Services, Alhaji Abdullahi Duro-Mohammed, while addressing newsmen, disclosed this in llorin on Saturday shortly after inspecting the affected areas in the two councils.

According to him, the rain started Friday night and lasted for about seven hours.

He also noted that the affected communities in the llorin East include Adangba, Okelele and Kankatu, while communities affected in Asa Local Government Areas are Passa and Orogbangba.

Reports say a cross section of the victims in the two Local Government Areas who are now refugees in Mosques, public schools in the areas and neighbours not affected by the rainstorm, appealed to the state government to quickly come to their aid.

Duro-Mohammed said the visit was at the instance of the State Governor, who had promised to provide support for the victims, stressing that after the visit to the affected communities to sympathise with the victims, the state government would give immediate assistance to alleviate their sufferings.

Speaking on behalf of those affected, the former Chairman of Moro Local Government, Alhaji Shuiab Baba-Jimoh appealed to the state government for urgent intervention to end the sufferings of the victims.
