A psychiatric patient, identified as Ogunmodede Tope, 52, reportedly hung himself in his mother’s house located at the Lafe area of Akure, the Ondo State capital over the weekend.

Punch reports that the deceased, a cobbler, was suspected to have taken his own life out of frustration, following his health challenge, which he and his family had reportedly been battling with for over 32 years, adding that the deceased’s family had spent a lot of money to treat the ailment.

According to the deceased’s mother, Mrs Comfort Ogunmodede, whom he reportedly lived with until his death, Tope was due for check-up last Thursday but the appointment had to be shifted to Monday because of the public holiday.

Reports say the mother discovered the lifeless body of her son dangling from a height in one of the rooms in the house.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirming the incident, said police detectives had visited the scene and had taken photographs of the scene, adding that no foul play was suspected in the scene of the incident.

Ogodo, however, said the corpse had been deposited at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure.
