A 50-year-old man, Olusola Ojewole was on Thursday remanded in Agodi Prison, Ibadan by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital for allegedly cutting his wife’s hand over N13,000.
Ojewole who was dragged to court after allegedly cutting his wife’s hand with cutlass on the suspicion that she stole N13,000 he had kept in the house.
Ojewole, of Iyana Apapa area, Moniya, Ibadan, is facing a charge of an attempt to kill his wife, Dorcas Olusegun.
Police prosecutor, Opeyemi Olagunju, had told the court that on November 4, at about 12 noon, the accused attempted to kill Dorcas by cutting her left hand with a cutlass, resulting in a deep cut.
Olagunju said, “Ojewole alleged that Dorcas stole N13,000 he kept in his room, but the complainant denied the accusation.
“The matter later led to hot arguments between the couple, which prompted Dorcas to flee to a co-tenant’s room.
“She thought the accused had gone, but as she opened her neighbour’s door, the accused attacked her and cut her hand with cutlass”.
He said that the money was later found in the couple’s room after the assault.
He said that the offence contravened Section 320 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abdulateef Adebisi in his ruling said that the accused would be in prison custody until December 27 when the case would come up for mention.
Adebisi did not take the plea of the accused.
