50 shops, two residential buildings razed as Ekiti violence escalates

At least, 50 shops and two residential buildings, located within the Oja Oba market in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, were completely burnt down as the ongoing violence between drivers and Hausa traders took another dimension on Friday.

The latest violence is said to be a reprisal attack after the Hausa community was attacked by mask-wearing hoodlums on Wednesday

The fresh violence broke out Friday morning just a day after the state governor, Ayodele Fayose imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the state.

According to report, residents of Odo Ado, Ajilosun-Ikere area of the state woke up to see thick fumes of flames coming from the market.

Many schools and commercial buildings have been shut down because of the violence.

The state governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, who personally led security team that included the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Mr. Etop James, to the scene, expressed worry at the turn of events.

The Commissioner however said he was challenged by the character of the state governor who abandoned the luxury of the government house to team up with the police in checking the crisis from getting out of hands.
