5 killed, 15 houses razed as communities clash in Nasarawa


Hell was let lose in Nasarawa, on Wednesday as no fewer than five persons were reported killed and 15 houses razed in renewed mayhem that broke out between Koro and Eggon tribesmen in Obi Local Government of the state.

It was gathered that trouble started when an unidentified person stole a motorcycle from Angwan Yakubu and ran into Gwadanye area, which is highly dominated by the Koro ethnic group.

War broke out when people of Angwan Yakubu came and demanded that the alleged culprit be produced. Failure to produce the suspect resulted in a fight, which left more than five persons dead and 15 houses destroyed.

It was learnt that the constituency of the deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Elisha Agwadu, was also razed by the inferno that gutted the place as a result of the crisis.

Confirming the bloody incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Abayomi Akeremale, said that several houses were set ablaze during the ‘war’ between two tribes in Gwadanye area of Agyaragu.

He added that security agencies were on top of the situation, affirming that security personnel had been deployed to the warring communities to calm the situation.
