The National Publicity Secretary aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the forthcoming national convention, Barrister Mohammed Kabir Usman has charged the National Assembly to reject President Buhari’s $5.5 billion loan proposal.
He stated this at a news conference in Abuja, saying that the loan would mortgage the future of younger Nigerians for the next forty years when Buhari himself might be no more.
Usman reasoned that the economy under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government had been backrolled, adding that micro and macro economic indices showed the nation’s worst index since 1999.
He noted that bogus economies like Nigeria were often driven by private and public sector, lamenting that under Buhari’s government, private investors have not shown up, while those that were inherited have left thereby creating massive unemployment and economic woes on Nigerians.
“Allowing this loan proposal would create serious economic conundrums for Nigerians in the next forty years, when Buhari may not be alive”, Usman pointed.
“How can a nation seek loans without understanding the dynamics of the systems of how to generate funds? This APC government wants to sell the future of Nigerians and it must not be allowed.
“Recall that during the Peoples Democratic Party administration, foreign debts owed before the advent of democracy in 1999 was written off and Nigeria had a clean bill of health. In that way, there was vibrant foreign reserve that sustained the value of our currency”, he insisted.
The politician added that the President Buhari led administration never meant well for Nigerians, stressing that “the Peoples Democratic Party government was able to put foods on the table of Nigerians, but APC came and changed this course as Nigerians can no longer afford to feed their families”.
Speaking further, Kabiru noted that insecurity has heightened in the last two years of the APC led government, as herdsmen have continued to carry out onslaughts on helpless Nigerians unabated.
He charged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris to release statistics of crimes in the last two years and compare with what it used to be within two years of the PDP led government.
“The level of crime has widened. Kidnappings which used to be a regional crime has suddenly become globalized”, he pointed.
Speaking further, he lashed at those who smuggled the erstwhile Chairman of Pension Taskforce, Abdulrasheed Maina into the federal civil service, saying the PDP government at the time found him wanting of corruption and that led to his exit from the service.
According to him, the development has cast a slur on the acclaimed integrity of the present administration, saying, it would have been better for the Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, and Minister of Interior to resign or be sacked else Nigerians will no longer take the anti corruption stance of President Buhari serious.
“The Maina gate has exposed the mediocrity of this government and for them to be taken serious, they need to prove to Nigerians that their fight against corruption is not selective”, Usman added.
