Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday received the All Progressives Congress (APC) bigwig, Chief Andrew Orugbo and 5,000 members of other political parties back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor, who expressed confidence that the PDP will win with large margin in the 2019 general elections, said the doors of the PDP were open to the few remaining members of the opposition political parties as PDP was now positioned to win in the 25 local government areas of the state.
Chief Orugbo, a former Commissioner in Delta State and thousands of the returnees were received by the Governor, the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Kingsley Esiso, and other top politicians at a well-attended rally held at Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the governor, “What we hear from the opposition is that they have the security apparatus, but, in democracy, it is the people who have their voters cards that determine the winners in elections and the PDP will win with great margin in the elections.
“Protect your voters card, don’t be intimidated, with our voters cards, we will get victory, keep working in unity, let us do everything together as members of the PDP family, we don’t discriminate and I welcome all of you who have returned to your home, the PDP,” Okowa said.
Governor Okowa at the rally further disclosed that the sum of N12 billion had been approved for local government councils to defray what they owe their staff and primary school teachers in the state.
Chief Orugbo had observed that the PDP has institutionalised internal democracy and that Governor Okowa was delivering on his electoral promises.
In his speech, earlier, Chief Esiso had said, APC had self-inflicted confusion and cannot win any election in the state.
