The Oyo State Police command has arrested 49 suspects over the killing of a DPO, CSP Ikeokwu Nworgu.
The DPO, who lived at at Adekile area of Orita Aperin, Ibadan, Oyo State, was murdered on April 1 by a mob.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Musa, who addressed journalists on Wednesday, said the criminal elements attacked, machete and shot the DPO and made away with his service pistol.
He said, “I immediately set in motion a team of crack detectives including the ambush squad which carried a painstaking and aggressive manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous crime. As I speak to you, 49 of those callous murderers and arsonist have been arrested.
“The machetes, guns, charms and other lethal weapons. Used in committing the crime have been recovered. Also, some properties looted from the scene have been recovered. Meanwhile, investigation is still in progress”.
The Police officer, alongside two others, were killed by a mob over a false alarm that a house at Adekile area was been used for ritual purposes.
