A 40-year-old motorcyclist, Salisu Abdullahi, has been arrested by the Niger Police Command for allegedly abducting a three-year-old girl at Dutesen-Kura Gwari in Minna, the state capital.
It was learnt that the victim’s mother had on December 6, 2018, asked the suspect to convey her daughter to the Police Children’s School within the area, but the suspect allegedly zoomed off with the child.
Abdullahi, in an interview with Northern City News on Sunday, said he didn’t know what came over him when he committed the offence.
He said, “I wanted to try what other abductors are doing to make quick money, but it did not work out. Abduction is another quick way of making money, but I never knew that the long arm of the law will catch up with me.
“I don’t know what came over me. Why should I abduct a three-year-old girl? That’s wicked; may Allah forgive me.”
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Abubakar, parading the suspect, confirmed that he admitted to committing the crime.
Abubakar said the command would not relent in its fight against criminals in the state.
