A 36-year-old man, Rasheed Kareem, has been sentenced to six months in prison by a magistrate court in Isolo for stealing Dangote truck tyres worth N160,000.
Kareem, who used to be a motor boy at Dangote Cement Depot Industries, a company managed by one Mrs. Khadijat Rasheed located at Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Ilasamaja, Lagos, allegedly stole the two spare tyres of one of the company’s six-wheel trucks with the registration number AGL803XA, the vehicle which he had driven to Kwara State with the intention of selling it in Kogi State.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, Kareem was intercepted by police officers of Oro Police Station, Kwara State, after being informed about a missing truck from Lagos.
Uagbale explained that the timely intervention of the police led to Kareem’s arrest and subsequent arraignment at the magistrate court on Wednesday, March 6, 2019.
He said Mrs. Rasheed had complained to the police at Ilasamaja police station about her truck which was missing on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, stating that the police instantly sent the information across to all divisions and that Kareem was subsequently caught with the truck by police officers of Oro Division, Kwara State.
The accused confessed that he had earlier sold the two spare tyres at Shagamu, Ogun State and that he intended to sell the truck in Kogi State.
Pleading guilty to the stealing charge; an offence contrary and punishable under section 287 of the Lagos State of Law, 2015, the Magistrate, Hon. Olufunmilayo Teluwo, sentenced Kareem to six months imprisonment without option of bail.
