36-year-old child trafficker arrested in Edo, extradited to UK


A 36 year old mother of one, Franca Asemota, who specializes in trafficking underage girls abroad for prostitution, has been arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons, NAPTIP, in Edo State.

Asemota, who was apprehended last week in Benin City, has been extradited to the United Kingdom.

It was gathered that NAPTIP, in partnership with the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom, apprehended Asemota in a shop around New Benin Market in Benin City.

According to a police source, between 2011 and 2012, Asemota sent 40 girls into the world of sex trafficking on eight separate flights into Heathrow Airport, London.

It was also gathered that the victims were promised education or jobs like hairdressing in countries such as France, Belgium and Spain but on reaching these countries, they were turned into sex slaves.
