32 persons arrested, 5 motorcycles seized for violating sanitation laws in Ibadan

Thirty-two (32) people and five (5) motorcycles were arrested and seized for violating sanitation laws during the monthly sanitation exercise in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Chief Isaac Ishola gave details of the arrest and seizure while monitoring the monthly exercise.

Ishola in a statement made available to DAILY POST by Olusegun Adesoji, Media Officer in the ministry stated that the arrested persons were apprehended while moving around during the sanitation exercise at various locations within Ibadan.

He, however, charged Caretaker Chairmen in the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state to always ensure active enforcement during the state’s environmental sanitation exercise.

Ishola added that the efforts of local government environmental health officers cannot be underestimated in the area of environmental enforcement.

He maintained that the ministry’s enforcement team cannot be everywhere during the sanitation exercise, urging the council bosses to be active in enforcing environmental laws within their municipals by barricading roads to avert human and vehicular movement during the exercise.

He pointed out that clean, safe, healthy and habitable environment can only be achieved when there is synergy between the Federal, State, Local Government, Agencies and non-governmental organizations, noting that environmental issue is a collective responsibility.

He stressed that the present administration in the State place more priority on healthy and habitable environment, free from flood and outbreak of diseases.

Chairman, Caretaker Committee for Ibadan North Local Government Area Hon. Adebayo Adegoke while speaking during the exercise remarked that he has been working to ensure healthy environment.
