The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday, 17th August, said the command had since July arrested no fewer than 314 suspects in Kano, in connection with drug offences and it has impounded illicit drugs, worth over N25 million.

According to the Commandant of the agency in the state, Alhaji Ahmadu Garba, the drugs that were seized include cocaine, Cannabis Sativa, Heroin and Psychotropic substance.

The commandant recalled that a truck carrying goods from Ogun state, with 97 kilograms of Cannabis on Wednesday, last week, was intercepted.

Garba said, “Investigations so far have revealed that the truck owner was unaware of the business the driver used it for.”

“The suspects in connection with drug offences in Kano, however, had been charged to Federal High Court in the state for prosecution. 83 of the suspects had been convicted while other cases were ongoing,” Garba added.

He urged truck owners to collaborate with the agency while recruiting drivers for their vehicles and also called on truck drivers and other commercial vehicle drivers to desist from transporting illicit drugs.
