Barely 24 hours after DailyPost reported that a Delta state Transit bus conveying passengers from Uduaghan park in Sapele to Warri crashed; killing all its occupants, another bloody tragedy struck in Sokoto as no fewer than 30 persons perished yesterday after a trailer truck lost control along Ruwa Wuri Tangaza road in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state and plunged into a river.
The ill-fated Daf trailer, with registration number Sokoto XA 443 XAA, was said to have been fully loaded with travellers and livestocks and heading for Warri, Delta State, from Mano Village before it veered off the road and ran into a river near Masallaci Village in Tangaza LGA, about 100 kilometres from Sokoto state.
Sokoto State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr. Umar Aliyu Gummi who confirmed the sad incident disclosed that 27 persons died at the spot.
He attributed the tragic incident to over-speeding and cautioned drivers to obey driving laws to save both themselves and their passengers.
It was learnt that no fewer than 80 persons were on board of the ill-fated vehicle. Some of them were said to have come from Bagida, Sabiyo, Tinnigere, Ruwa Wuri and Tsoni villages of Tangaza local government.
One of the survivors of the mishap, Hassan Sahabi, who is receiving treatment at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto said both humans and livestocks perished in the incident.
Another victim whose leg was heavily bandaged at UDUTH, Mallam Amadu Mohammed, said they were on their way to sell livestock for the yuletide before the accident occurred. According Amadu, he was hoping to sell the livestock to raise money to cater for his wife and 10 children.
